locked out—including "Slim Jims" and coat hangers—were no longer adequate or, worse, were likely to damage the vehicle.
Pop-A-Lock® introduced specialized tools, extensive technician training, and exhaustive vehicle information as the solution. This specialized service was quickly accepted by the public and by May of 1993 had expanded to Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
As Pop-A-Lock continued to grow into the largest and fastest growing car door unlocking franchise in the country, through advanced training and rapid response, the company expanded to provide Full Mobile Locksmith Service to commercial, residential and automotive customers.
Today Pop-A-Lock is recognized as the leading Locksmith Franchise in the world with 130 franchises in 37 states serving a total population of more than 100 million in 2500 cities.
Training and Support
Your introduction to the Pop-A-Lock® Franchise System begins with the Pop-A-Lock® Franchisee Training Program. This program introduces you to the various facets of operating one of our franchises, including operations, standards, human resources, administration, accounting, and advertising and marketing. Franchisee training is conducted at our corporate offices in Lafayette, LA.
This program is followed by technical training—identical to what your technicians will receive—that shows you how to use Pop-A-Lock’s proprietary tools and techniques to open vehicles. The technical training course includes comprehensive instruction and is conducted at our national training facility in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Should you or one of your employees later become a certified instructor (after completing additional training and meeting other requirements), you will be qualified to train new technicians for your franchise location. You will also receive annual instructor recertification training.
Our franchise compliance specialists will periodically contact or visit your franchise location to perform a field inspection and to meet with you. They will solicit your input and feedback, try to assist you with any operational problems you may be facing, and share best practices throughout the franchise system.
Approximately three times per year, we will post updated vehicle information and diagrams for our Confidential Opening Manual to a secure website where, using Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®, you will be able to download and print the updates. You and your technicians will also be able to contact a research and development specialist 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the event you need technical assistance to open a vehicle in the field.
Marketing and Advertising
The Pop-A-Lock Advertising Fund has been established to pool the advertising fee payments from all of our franchisees. This fund is used to further brand recognition and business development for the franchise system as a whole.
Our Director of Advertising & Marketing will be available to you to offer advice, guidance, and resources for your advertising and marketing needs. Also available to you at no charge will be our Yellow Page advertising consultant, who can offer sound advice on Yellow Page directories and advertisements based on over 40 years of experience in the industry. Since our consultant is paid by us and does not represent any publisher or broker, you can be confident that his advice is fair and unbiased.
We offer a national toll free dispatch number, 1-888-POP-OPEN, that routes automatically to your local dispatch number when a customer calls from your franchise area. This number is a free payphone call and can be used as a handy mnemonic in all of your advertising.
Pop-A-Lock® is also known for its Emergency Car Door Unlocking (EDU) Program, under which we pledge to open a vehicle for free any time human life is in danger, which usually means a child locked inside. Nationwide, Pop-A-Lock rescues hundreds of children everyday, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This program is a valuable contribution to the communities that you serve and is a memorable way to distinguish yourself from your competitors. It also helps us build strong relationships with police, fire, and other emergency services.
Initial Investment
In addition to the franchise and exclusive territory fees, the initial investment includes various startup costs and working capital. The actual staffing level required will depend on a variety of factors, including geography of the territory, population density, national accounts, local/regional locksmith account opportunities, traffic conditions, motor club call volume, and competitors.
NOTES:
- The initial franchise fee is calculated as a base fee of $29,000 plus a territory fee of $66 per one thousand of population in that territory, based on census data.
- The combined total of base fee and territory fee for a franchise is capped at a maximum of $62,000 with a maximum population of 500,000.
- Multiple franchises may be awarded.
- Start up costs beyond the franchise fee are detailed in the UFOC.
